Matrix, micron-level flatness: when clients recognize precision
Spain has always been one of our most successful European markets, and over several decades, many Rosa and Favretto Surface and profile Grinding Machines have been installed there. The last machine in the line supplied to the Spanish market is noteworthy. The company Matrix, founded in 1974 and located in Ripoll at the foot of the Pyrenees, approached us with a quite exacting requirement calling for very tough geometrical accuracy. Our desire to take on such a demanding challenge resulted in the supply of a truly unique piece of equipment.
Matrix is a european leader in the manufacture of High-Performance Injection Moulds. The planarity obtained on the mold bases is the key to their products’ overall quality and consistency. A standard general-purpose grinding machine could not be the right answer to their quest for a generic machine, which would have surely failed to meet their expectation. On the other hand, it was clear from the beginning that only a machine specifically designed and manufactured for ultra-precise execution could succeed.
At Rosa, we are enthusiastic about accepting technical challenges. The entire manufacturing process from design to mechanical machining, assembly and testing takes place under our own direct and thorough control, which is why we were eager to accept the technical challenge presented by Matrix. Our Surface Grinding Machine, model STEEL 13.7 N, has been working at Matrix for some months and can achieve planarity down to the micron over a working area of 1300 x 600 mm to customer satisfaction. Matrix can further improve their molds’ outstanding quality for many years.
